Concern for Eco-Tourism & Outdoor Recreation

Dear Minister Popham,
I am writing to express my enthusiastic support of the proposal for the expansion of the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Provincial Park to include the Argenta-Johnsons Landing Face, the 6306 hectare west facing slope stretching from Hamill Creek, Argenta in the North to Fry Creek, Johnsons Landing in the South and presided over by the highest mountain on Kootenay Lake, Mt. Willet.
The importance of these 6306 hectares of low-to-mid elevation forest is manifold, including its ecologic value to the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Provincial Park, its essential contribution to the health and stability of the adjacent communities of Argenta and Johnsons Landing, and its aesthetic importance for the tourist industry of the region. Unfortunately, this important region is threatened with logging development by its inclusion in the draft 2023-2028 Forest Stewardship Plan of Porcupine Wood Products. This issue needs your urgent attention to avoid irreversible damage.
With the recent detrimental impacts of provincial legislation on timber practices in BC, and the resulting local mill closures that have occurred in the Lardeau Valley, the local economy of our region is increasingly turning to ecotourism as a means of economic viability. One of our greatest assets at the North End of Kootenay Lake is our virtually undisturbed forest landscapes and pristine wilderness. Indeed, the popular Kootenay Lake Provincial Park campsites of Lost Ledge and Davis Creek depend on the spectacular view of the forested Argenta-Johnsons Landing Face, presided over by magnificent Mt. Willet. Please help us prevent irreversible harm to our important tourist economy by protecting the Argenta-Johnsons Landing Face, which is the main visual scene for those arriving to the Lardeau Valley from the South.
Please help to legislate the perpetual protection of the Argenta-Johnsons Landing Face by including it in the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Provincial Park as soon as possible. Until this is secured, I request a moratorium be placed on all development proposals to this area.
I would appreciate a response from you on how you intend to proceed in regard to this issue.
Thank you for your attention,
