Dear Premier Eby,

The Argenta Face along Kootenay Lake requires full and immediate protection within the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Provincial Park. Already surrounded on three sides by the park, the Argenta Face will complete this park ecosystem from mountain top to lake shore.

There is a multitude of reasons for full protection of the Argenta Face:

  • The most spectacular view along Kootenay Lake.

  • Habitat for for the highly endangered Mountain Caribou as well as Wolverine and

    Mountain Goat.

  • Terrain stability.

  • Whitebark Pine Regeneration and Recovery zone.

  • Domestic Watersheds.

  • A larger park is ecologically more viable.

  • Additions of invaluable lakeshore habitat.

  • Many excellent recreational opportunities.

  • Multi-species old growth.

  • Grizzly Bear Corridor.

  • Many red and blue listed ecological communities.

  • Travertine flows, caves and karst formations.

  • Mitigate worsening climate change.

  • Connectivity between Purcell and Selkirk Mountains.

  • Support the tourism economy.

  • The vast majority of local residents favour park inclusion with support throughout the region and province.

Your commitment to protect 30% of BC by 2030 is greatly appreciated! We have only five years to fulfill this goal. Certainly the inclusion of the Argenta Face in the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Park will be a welcome addition to the BC Parks system and assist in furthering the accomplishment of 30% by 2030.

There is no time to waste! Alarmingly, industry presently has applications with the MOF to build road, clearcut 1000 truckloads of forest, exempt from visual standards, and uplift the allowable cut on the Argenta Face. These applications need to be denied. With the regular and inappropriate proposals for industrial development it is clear that the only true protection for the Argenta Face is within the BC Parks system.

Please let me know that you are protecting the Argenta Face in the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Provincial Park and keep me posted on your strategy for protecting 30% of BC by 2030.

Sincerely,
